The Revelator Orchestra is the spoken word/music ensemble founded by writer Peter Murphy and producer/musician Acko. Their first album The Sounds of John the Revelator features musical adaptations of readings from Murphy’s acclaimed first novel John the Revelator, which was shortlisted for the Costa First Novel Award and the Kerry Group Fiction Prize, and nominated for the 2011 IMPAC award. Peter is an acclaimed novelist, journalist and spoken word performer. A former contributing editor to Dublin’s Hot Press magazine, his journalism has appeared in the Irish Times, Rolling Stone, Music Week and the Sunday Business Post. He is also a reporter for RTE’s arts programme The Works. His second novel Shall We Gather at the River will be published in January, followed by the second Revelator Orchestra album The Brotherhood of the Flood.

On Oct 31st (Halloween) The Mudbug Club (Independent Record Label) herald the digital release of ‘The Sounds Of John The Revelator’ by The Revelator Orchestra, followed by a physical CD release on Nov 5th (Guy Fawkes / Bonfire Night) The album’s 18 tracks incorporate cameo performances from guitarist Brian K Adams, Frames/Swell Season man Colm Mac Con Iomaire, and violinist Sheila Sullivan among others.

“Imagine, if you can, music that sounds like Tom Waits on drums and Lightnin’ Hopkins on a battered hollowbody thumping away down in the cellar while Murphy reads… The Sounds of John the Revelator is a neat piece of work that somehow combines the weirdness of Poe with the coolness of the Beats over a soundtrack that might’ve been created by the Velvet Underground.”

A creature of habit @ The Electric Picnic Boys and Girls ~ I pitched my circus tent with my favourite clowns and revelled in the weekends festivities ~ Moments I do recall ~ Bumping into the inspirational John Cooper Clarke and being reduced to goosebumps and tears by Patti Smith on Saturday night ‘People Have The Power!’ ~ A road trip to Valentia Island may be the only Cure ‘Love Cats’ … Galway, Carlow and Dublin dates to follow… x

Spring 2012 ‘Cowtown’ Dublin. Irish artist Jerry Fish recruits producer Gavin Glass and a skeleton crew of rogue musicians to record the song ‘Celebrate’ in aid of the children’s charity ‘Barretstown’

Celebrate was first recorded in November 1989 by An Emotional Fish, in fact the band were in the studio the day the Berlin Wall came down and didn’t find out the news until the following day.
